Script Karma F.A.Q.

Q: I’ve heard I should never pay someone to read my script. Why should I trust you?

A: That’s solid advice. There are shady characters out there who will ask you for money and make promises they don’t intend to keep. Script Karma is different. We are clear about what type of service we are providing, and initially we only ask for $5 which is donated to charity. If you pass the Slush Pile Challenge and choose to request full script coverage you decide what it is worth to you under out “pay-what-you-can” program. If you’re uncomfortable with our terms, don’t submit to us.

Q: Why on earth would you read my first 10 pages for $5?

A: To be accurate, we’re reading your first 10 pages for FREE since the donations all go to charity, and here’s why. We have a passion for helping develop top quality scripts and are also excited about discovering new writers, but we understand that a lot of writers can’t afford $60 let alone $400 for professional script coverage. So we came up with Script Karma as a way to give writers access to affordable script coverage.

Q: How do I know if your service is any good?

A: We promise that our readers are experienced reading at industry level and are continually improving their skills through classes and well, reading hundreds of scripts. But don’t take our word for it, check out our testimonials. Because we want to be fair to our writers, we keep the cost of submitting low and therefore the risk to you is also low. Again, if you aren’t comfortable with that, that’s fine. There are a lot of coverage services out there and you’ll find one that suits you.

Q: What if I don’t have a Gmail account or a Paypal account? Can I still submit?

A: At this time both a Gmail account and ability to pay via Paypal are required to submit to Script Karma. We hope to improve this process in the future. If you really want to submit – and we hope you do – we suggest finding a friend with a Gmail account who can help you out.

Q: Do you accept international submissions?

A: YES! As long as you can donate and upload your script, we would love to read it. But please note that at this time we can only read submissions in English.

Q: Where does my donation go?

A: Your donation (minus any payment processing fees) goes straight to support Inside Out Writers. IOW provides creative writing programs and other services to currently/recently incarcerated youth with a goal of reducing the youth recidivism rate. Visit their website for more information and volunteer opportunities.
